Selecting Wall Color

You can Make a significant difference in a room by simply changing the wall color.
Upholstery and draperies are among the bigger decorating investments.
Painting on the other hand is relatively inexpensive and transforms a room much more quickly than anything else you can do.

To make a change, let your fabric be your guide. In fact, this is a good approach to take even if you're starting from scratch. Fabric, carpeting, and tile are available in a more limited range of colors than is paint, so choose them first and then decide on your paint color.
Any fabric can suggest at least three options for wall colors, each of which will produce a different feeling in the room. Once you identify the options your fabric offers, decide which one creates the mood you want to evoke - cozy, calm, relaxed, energetic, and playful?
Starting with the fabric works for any room in the house not just a room with a sofa. Bedding and draperies provide easy starting points for adding color to bedrooms and adjoining baths, and even in a powder room, the window treatment can suggest an exciting wall color at place for you to tell a story and let your users know a little more about you.

Know your colors
Colors have life in them. They influence us, and that’s why you should choose your colors with care. It might be easy if you first decide on what ambiance you want each room to have, and then decide on the color.

Blues and greens and all their myriad shades are good for bedrooms, as these colors are soothing and tranquil. Purple, and shades of it, can be very romantic, so it might be a color choice for a master bedroom. Bathrooms can be any color you want. Some experts say you should try to match the tile, but it is much more fun to be bold with your bathroom paint choice. In the end, of course, it is entirely up to you.

Resist the temptation to select a paint color first. Because paint is inexpensive and can be matched to virtually any color, start your color search with room elements that are less flexible, such as furniture, fabrics, tile or wallpaper  Then base your  colors on those.
As you choose colors, don’t forget to consider the value. A mix of values within your color helps to keep a palette with multiple hues from becoming chaotic. Choose one dark color, one light color, and one bright color. The color that becomes the dominant hue in the room depends on your personal preference. Go for your comfort level, says Mark Woodman, interior designer and board member of the Color Marketing Group. Choose clean and bright, or soft and subtle.
If you're wary of color, test it first. Draw a plan of your home and list what will be in each room, such as the carpet, wall colors, and furniture. Gather swatches or paint chips that represent the colors of those items. Assess the rooms for bo
